ZUNi Life

Today one of my favorite mottos is: ‘Be comfortable being uncomfortable,’ which is far from what my life’s pursuits were before today. Another quote I live by is “‘One day at a time’ and ‘The next right step.’” I live by these sayings and hold them close to me as I need a constant reminder of how I use to let fear, my insecurities and a life of lack guide my daily actions. That’s the story I use to tell myself, but not today. Change is one of the constants in my life. My intent for creating ZUNi Life bracelets is to tell my story and help others tell their story.

Inspiration for ZUNi

The inspiration for the bracelets came, after participating in several triathlons and while I was in Peru working with the Ministry of Education on my masters degree in Severe Special Education. While in the market place of Cusco, Peru I came across a silver plated cuff bracelet that had three ‘swatches’ cut into the bracelet. My thought was that the three swatches could represent swim, bike, run. It could also represent other things religious and spiritual. Over time, those three swatches began to represent many different things in my life and the story I would tell myself, most especially being a triathlete. That bracelet soon became a reminder of the good accomplishments in my life. It told my story.

Birth of ZUNi

The glory and an essential part of any athletic and in some cases academic events is the finish medal. But hours and days later my finish medals found their place in a shoe box in my closet. How could I remind myself of the accomplishment I had completed with the crowning glory of those adventures stored away in my closet. How about a bracelet with some insignia that would represent that event, something I could wear to work, shopping, gatherings and to the movies? Hence the birth of ZUNi Life, a bracelet for men, women and children with sliders representing my story. ZUNi is a Native American tribe and the word means, ‘Good Health.’ That’s my story, that’s my ZUNi.
